Valparaíso, or simply “Valpo,” on Chile’s west coast is a fascinating place for street photography. Known for its bohemian spirit, the city is filled with musicians, artists, old buildings, and streets covered in graffiti. I loved wandering through its steep hills and old neighbourhoods with my camera, looking for strong contrasts, textures, and unexpected details. Rusty metal facades, weathered walls, antique funiculars, and layers of street art take on a completely different character in black and white. The city is full of colour, but for me, B/W photography reveals another side of Valpo — its textures, contrasts, and slightly worn, poetic atmosphere.
