Humahuaca – Crossroads of the Andes

Humahuaca, a small town in Argentina’s northern province of Jujuy, lies high in the Andes at around 3,000 metres above sea level. The area has been inhabited for at least 10,000 years and was once part of the Inca Empire. For centuries, the valley has been an important crossroads for trade and cultural exchange. Surrounded by vast fields of cactus and the spectacular, colourful mountains of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, the landscape feels both rugged and deeply connected to the history of the region. Wandering through the town and its surroundings, I was struck by the contrast between the quiet everyday life and the dramatic landscape rising all around it.
